Creating Memories Through Music: A Personal Journey

Music was always a go to when I was Maureen’s Care Partner. I have recently purchased a record player and have been inching my way through our collection of vinyl. Until a couple of weeks ago I was thinking of throwing all those LP’s away;until Mick a mate of mine urged caution. He said: ‘every record you have is a memory’ and he is right.

I awoke this morning so hot that I took a shower shortly after 2 am. As I fired up the record players I put on some of our old favourites. I eventually found Dr Hook and was transformed by ‘A Little Bit More’. The words meant so much and brought back happy memories of a night at Bedworth Civic Hall when we were just good friends. Three years later we were Husband and Wife.

Thanks Mick, but for you Dr Hook may have ended up oin the bin! I hope music brought back happy memories for Maureen as she struggled to deal with memory loss as dementia could have stolen happy memories.
