I went to watch the Cleethorpes Half Marathon this morning. I was hoping to see how Meg, a Nurse at our my Practice was doing. I have an appointment to see her a week on Monday to be measuired for Compression Stockings. Unfortunately I got chatting to an ex Coal face Worker and his wife and must have missed her.

I mentioned to the ex Miner that I had stood on the Picket Lines during both of the Miners Strikes. I also mentioned that I had met Arthur Scargill and Peter Heathfield.

Arthur had come to Coventry to the Launch of Mummy What Did You Do During The Strike? A publication by the Keresley Miners Wives that my ex wife Julie had helped them to produce.

While Maureen and I were on holiday we had met Peter and his wife. He had dementia at the time but his wife shared fascinating stories about Athur.

Sorry Meg I’m sure you passed me while I was chatting about ‘the good old days’. When this country thrived on the hard work of many of us: in the days when we had an Industrial Base. It makes me so sad that various Governments have destroyed the Industrial Base that made Britain Great.
